The old bridge at Broad Street, affectionately known as The Green Bridge, connected people from Long Eaton town to the fabulous West Park. The bridge was in place for nearly 100 years, and has unfortunately reached the end of its life, and a new bridge is under construction. The new bridge at Broad Street is part of the Long Eaton Town Deal Walking and Cycling project. It has been developed over a number of years along with the new waterfront in West Park. Construction is progressing well and the main part of the bridge is now in place. The build should be complete in the Autumn.
The new bridge will celebrate the rich lacemaking heritage of Long Eaton. Wedding lace made in the nearby Harrington Mills has inspired the floral design embedded in the ribbon-like screen hemming the bridge deck. The red handrail represents the red thread that was used in lacemaking to highlight a repair. This bridge is an urban repair, stitching back together this part of Long Eaton.
Long Eaton needs the bridge, and we need you to help find a name for the new structure.
The proposed naming scheme is as follows:
• Public to propose their favourite name for the bridge
• Panel to shortlist the names
• Long Eaton Town Deal Board members to vote on the preferred name
Now is your opportunity to take part in naming the bridge. Please use the link below to put forward your preferred name for the bridge and why.
Once the bridge is complete, the person who suggested the winning name will be invited to the opening ceremony.
Please use the link below to take part in the consultation which is open until 11.59pm Sunday 19 July 2026.
