The ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014 provides powers for councils and the police to deal with anti-social behaviour (ASB). One of these is a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), designed to be used to protect public areas from ASB.

A PSPO is in place which focuses on alcohol-related ASB, primarily covering Ilkeston and Long Eaton Towns. The Order provides the police and designated council officers with powers to restrict alcohol consumption within the area/s of the Order. The existing Order can be found by visiting www.erewash.gov/pspo under the ‘Current Orders’ section (opens in new window).

The current Order has been in place since 2023 and expires at the end of November 2026. The council is proposing a new PSPO to be in place for 3 years, with the same conditions as the current one. To view the wording of the new draft Order, visit www.erewash.gov.uk/pspo under the ‘Under Consultation' section.

The proposal is for the new PSPO to cover the same areas, including Ilkeston and Long Eaton Town Centres and some outlying areas connected to the Towns. The data and knowledge that partners have on alcohol incidents supports this approach. The following survey will ask for your views on the coverage of the existing order across both Ilkeston and Long Eaton and whether you agree with the areas.

This consultation is also an opportunity for residents, visitors and other partners to tell us if there are any other areas that need to be covered by the Order. After submitting your survey responses you will be returned to this page where you will have the opportunity to use an interactive map to 'drop a pin' at public space locations in Erewash where you feel alcohol related ASB occurs adn share a brief description of what you witnessed or experienced. The team will consider these comments, alongside the data available and look at whether these can be added into areas the new Order will cover.

Please use the link below to complete the survey by 31st July 2026.
